Community Engagement And Outreach Core

The American Indian Diabetes Prevention Center Community Engagement and Outreach Core will target American Indian children and youth within Oklahoma's American Indian communities. The two interventions focus on addressing risk factors for diabetes in youth, targeting poor nutrition and insufficient physical activity as potentially modifiable behaviors. Both are projects that have shown promise in terms of positive community reception and preliminary outcomes. However, dissemination of the findings from the NYPD and assessment of individual and community responses to the Eagle Book series are lacking. The Community Engagement/Outreach Core will address these deficiencies, and evaluate the effectiveness of these two projects in terms of 1) decreasing community and individual risk factors for diabetes and 2) community dissemination.
